Global Rescue membership is not travel insurance. It provides a different kind of protection.

Travel insurance isn’t the whole answer

Travel insurance and Global Rescue membership are not the same thing. Travel insurance can provide financial protection for insured losses such as medical expenses, cancellation, interruption and baggage, depending on the policy.

Global Rescue is a membership service designed around emergency assistance, field rescue and medical transport. When a qualifying medical emergency occurs, Global Rescue can arrange specified rescue and transport services under the membership terms.

Think of it this way

Travel insurance: financial protection against covered losses.
Global Rescue: specialist assistance, qualifying field rescue and medical transport services.
Together: financial protection and specialist emergency assistance can complement each other.

Travel doesn’t stop at 60. Neither should your adventures.

The frequent traveller

You travel regularly, perhaps several times a year, and want to know that specialist emergency assistance is available wherever your journey takes you.

Your home abroad

You spend weeks or months at a property overseas. You may know the area well, but an unexpected medical emergency can still create a difficult situation.

The adventure traveller

Skiing, walking, cycling, sailing, motorcycling and other activities can take you beyond the reach of ordinary emergency services. The exact activities and membership options should always be checked against the current terms.

What happens when you need help?

1. Something happens

You suffer a serious illness or injury while travelling.

2. Get emergency help

Call local emergency services immediately when appropriate, then contact Global Rescue as soon as possible.

3. Global Rescue assesses the situation

Their team considers the circumstances, your medical needs and whether the membership terms for assistance or transport are met.

4. Assistance is coordinated

Where covered, Global Rescue arranges the appropriate qualifying rescue or transport service.

Important: Global Rescue must be involved in arranging qualifying transport. Transport arranged independently by a member or a third party is not reimbursed under the membership terms.

It’s more than an evacuation service

Field Rescue

Qualifying members who cannot reach a medical facility themselves may be eligible for field rescue and transport under the membership terms.

Medical Transport

For qualifying medical emergencies, Global Rescue can arrange air or surface transport to a hospital of choice in the member’s Home Country, subject to the agreement.

Travel Assistance

Membership services can also include medical and legal locator services, medication and medical-supply transport, interpretation and emergency message relay, subject to the applicable terms.

Your home may be abroad. Your emergency support should travel with you.

If you spend extended periods at a home in Greece, Spain, Portugal, France, Italy or elsewhere, you may feel that you already know how to access local healthcare. But a serious emergency can still involve language barriers, unfamiliar hospitals, transport decisions and getting back to the right place for ongoing care.

Global Rescue is designed to provide specialist assistance when a qualifying emergency occurs while you are travelling.

You’re experienced enough to know that things can go wrong.

We are not interested in telling experienced travellers that they should stop travelling. Quite the opposite.

We believe the sensible approach is to understand the risks, make proper arrangements and then get on with enjoying the journey.

Independent travel needs an independent backup plan

If you arrange your own flights, accommodation, vehicles or activities, there may be no tour operator coordinating things when a serious problem occurs. That is where specialist assistance can make a difference.

We recommend thinking about Global Rescue alongside appropriate travel insurance, not as a replacement for it. Global Rescue membership services are provided by Global Rescue and remain subject to the current Member Services Agreement.

Questions travellers ask us

Does Global Rescue replace travel insurance?

No. They address different needs. Travel insurance can provide financial protection for covered losses and expenses. Global Rescue is a membership service for specialist emergency assistance, qualifying rescue and medical transport.

Will Global Rescue pay all my medical bills?

No. Global Rescue is not an insurance policy. Costs that are not specifically covered by the membership remain the member’s responsibility. Check your travel insurance separately.

Can I arrange my own evacuation and claim it back?

You should contact Global Rescue when an event occurs that may require qualifying assistance. The membership terms state that independently arranged transport is not reimbursed.

Is Global Rescue suitable for adventure travel?

Global Rescue serves many travellers undertaking adventurous and remote activities, but eligibility, activities and service conditions vary. Always check the current membership terms for your particular trip.

Could Global Rescue be right for you?

You travel overseas regularly.
You spend extended periods outside the UK.
